Euisun Chung Named Most Influential
Person in Global Automotive Industry

Euisun Chung, the Executive Chair of Hyundai Motor Group, has been recognized as the most influential person in the global automotive industry.
The prestigious automotive magazine MotorTrend, founded in 1949, announced Chung as the 2023 Person of the Year. On the same day, the publication revealed its 2023 MotorTrend Power List, which ranks him in the top position.
The MotorTrend Power List is compiled annually, selecting the 50 most influential individuals in the global automotive industry, based on rigorous assessments and private voting by editors and advisory board members.
From Data and Technology to Smart
Cities: Chung’s Vision for Mobility
“Chung is leading the electric vehicle industry and future mobility with insight into global trends and a passion for a better future,” noted MotorTrend.
Chung has consistently emphasized that “The essential mission of Hyundai Motor Group is to realize safe and free mobility and to bring a peaceful life.” His vision encompasses a wide range of areas, including electrification, autonomous driving, connectivity, robotics, Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), smart cities, hydrogen energy, artificial intelligence, and software.
He has urged employees that, while the group was once a fast follower in the era of internal combustion engines, it must now become a first mover, leading the market with exceptional performance and value in the age of electric vehicles.
In his New Year message this year, he reaffirmed his commitment to develop and supply more advanced vehicles to solidify global electric vehicle leadership and continue the transition to electrification.

Recognition of Chung’s Passion
through Prestigious Awards

Last year, Chung was named the inaugural recipient of Visionary of the Year in Newsweek’s 2022 list of The World’s Greatest Auto Disruptors, which honors leaders expected to have a significant impact on the future of the automotive industry over the next 30 years.
In 2021, he received the Issigonis Trophy at the 2021 Autocar Awards organized by the British automotive magazine Autocar. This is considered the highest honor in the Autocar Awards, established in memory of the legendary automotive designer and engineer, Alec Issigonis.
Executive Chair Chung Steering Hyundai Motor Group to Market Leadership

MotorTrend commented, “Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia are delivering back-to-back success,” stating that “the vehicles of Hyundai Motor Group are becoming increasingly difficult for competitors to match due to their eye-catching design, quality, and reasonable pricing.” Indeed, the Genesis G90 and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 were named Car of the Year and SUV of the Year, for 2023.
Building on last year’s achievements, where the IONIQ 5 and EV6 were awarded the 2022 World Car of the Year and 2022 European Car of the Year, the EV6 was also recognized in the utility category as the 2023 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year™, marking a significant milestone as Hyundai and Kia electric vehicles swept all three of the world’s top car awards.
Additionally, Genesis ranked first among premium brands in J. D. Power’s 2022 Initial Quality Study and Vehicle Dependability Study, while the 2023 MotorTrend Power List also featured Chung alongside many other leaders from Hyundai Motor Group.
