Kia’s first electric light commercial vehicle (eLCV), the PV5 Cargo, has officially set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for “the greatest distance travelled by a light-duty battery-powered electric van with maximum payload on a single charge” — 693.38 km (430.84 mi).

The record-setting drive took place on September 30, 2025, on public roads north of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, under real-world driving conditions. The PV5 Cargo Long Range 4-door variant equipped with a 71.2 kWh battery carried its maximum authorized payload of 665 kg, completing 693.38 km on a single charge over a 58.2 km mixed urban/extra-urban loop, demonstrating Kia’s electrified commercial vehicle technology.

The test route was designed to replicate real-world delivery and logistics conditions. The 58.2 km mixed urban/extra-urban loop included intersections, traffic signals, and elevation changes to reflect real operating conditions, and the PV5 completed the loop 12 times.

The battery was charged to 100% before departure, and both the charging port and cargo compartment were sealed until the run was completed. The attempt was monitored by TÜV Hessen and buck Vermessung, with GPS tracking and in-cabin cameras. The PV5 Cargo completed the run lasting 22 hours and 30 minutes, maintaining stable performance and high efficiency even on sections with approximately 370 meters of elevation gain per loop.

The PV5 was driven by George Barrow, a respected commercial-vehicle journalist and International Van of the Year jury member, and Christopher Nigemeier, a Senior Engineer at Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC). Barrow and Nigemeier noted that the PV5’s range and efficiency set a new benchmark for electric vans, demonstrating outstanding performance even in real-world driving conditions.

“This record is a testament to the versatility and innovation behind Kia’s first PBV. Much of our target audience could operate for almost two full working days on a single charge, which speaks volumes about real‑world capability,” said Marc Hedrich, President and CEO of Kia Europe.

The PV5 Cargo’s GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title reflects Kia’s commitment to delivering innovative and practical electrified mobility solutions. Moving forward, Kia will continue to expand its electric commercial vehicle lineup centered on PBVs, advancing technological innovation to provide sustainable mobility optimized for customers’ real-world use.
