A Small Step Towards a Brighter Future

Discarded Ocean Plastic,
Reborn with a Purpose

  • The ocean is where all life begins—and the future
  • we're all called on to protect. Kia has been contemplating movements
  • for a better world, and as part of that journey,
  • we're actively supporting initiatives aimed at protecting
  • and restoring our marine ecosystems.

Balance between Movement and Nature

As we envision better mobility solutions for tomorrow, we must also confront the inevitable cost to nature. That’s why Kia is on a journey with The Ocean Cleanup to turn responsibility into action—toward a plastic-free ocean.

While expanding the freedom of mobility for millions of customers, we’ve consistently reflected on the burden that nature bears as a result. In the face of this 'dilemma of movement', Kia is taking action in partnership with The Ocean Cleanup.

The Ocean Cleanup is an international, mission driven non-profit organization that develops and scales technologies to extract legacy ocean plastic and intercept ocean-bound plastic from the world’s most polluted rivers.

Since 2022, guided by our vision to become a sustainable mobility solutions provider, Kia has been engaged in a long-term, seven-year partnership to realize our shared mission of a plastic-free ocean.

Kia EV3
Limited Edition Trunk Liner

Floating aimlessly in the vast ocean, plastic waste poses risks to marine life and humanity, especially when degrading into microplastics.

While transforming ocean plastic into a practical and useful product poses numerous challenges, Kia and The Ocean Cleanup remain committed to breathing new life into plastics that were once deemed useless. From discarded plastic waste to added value in your everyday life, we are moving forward on this journey of small yet bold movements for a better tomorrow.

Wave-Inspired Design

Taking inspiration from Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, the trunk liner's 'geometric wave' pattern is reminiscent of waves and trash flowing into the collection retention zone—echoing The Ocean Cleanup's process for extracting plastic waste.

Responsibility Embedded in Design

The Kia x Ocean Cleanup logo engraved on the trunk liner symbolizes the shared commitment between Kia and The Ocean Cleanup to tackle ocean plastic waste. More than a partnership mark, it represents a promise to share responsibility across the entire process—from collection and recycling to integration into everyday life.

Transparent Flow of Resources

The plastic extracted by The Ocean Cleanup from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is third-party certified by DNV Chain of Custody Standards. This helps ensure the traceability and material integrity of the plastic—allowing customers to confirm the origin and authenticity of recycled ocean plastic products.
