The Kia EV6 lays to rest typical EV stereotypes

Apr 29, 2022

Among all things “new normal” are electric vehicles (EVs). With the climate crisis and eco-conscious boom, interest in green cars as an alternative to the traditional engine cars has never been higher.

Despite the soaring interest in the environmental benefits of EVs, some drivers are still hesitant to shift to this sustainable way of moving. This is mostly due to some common misconceptions around EVs like electric cars would be “inconvenient” or “not performant” or even “expensive to maintain”. With Kia’s first dedicated EV newly entering the scene, it’s time to put those claims to rest. The Kia EV6 – known to have pushed boundaries for EVs – is here to bust all the common myths about electric cars.

True or False? The Kia EV6 answers everything

Q1. “It takes way too long to charge.”

Once upon a time when EVs first came out, indeed, it took a while to charge them. This is totally a thing of the past however. Thanks to Kia’s high-power and high-efficiency 800V charging technology, the Kia EV6 takes only 18 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% at a 350kW – letting you spend more time on your priorities. If you’re in a hurry, just spare 4.5min of your time charging and you can safely go up to 100km in the EV6.

Q2. “The battery doesn’t last long.”

The battery and a car’s range used to be the main hurdle when considering an EV purchase. The Kia EV6, however, presents a new paradigm in EV driving range. With the EV6 long-range version, you can travel up to 528km on a single charge (WLTP) – more than enough to take you on a weekend road trip.

Q3. “I’m worried that there will be no charging stations around.”

To provide quick and easy EV charging service, Hyundai Motor Group launched a super-rapid 800V charging brand, ‘E-pit’ in Korea. What makes it all the more convenient is an E-pit mobile app, where an all-in-one experience, from charging to payment, is possible. In Europe, Kia partnered with the European charging network IONITY, which plans to expand its number of 800V ultra-fast chargers from 1,500 to 7,000 by 2025 across the continent.

In addition to expanding the charging infrastructure, on-demand charging services are also on the rise. Kia America recently announced a partnership with mobile electric vehicle charging service, Currently. With the concierge charging service available whenever and wherever you want, EV charging is no longer a hurdle, but a convenient and hassle-free experience!

Q4. “Driving is all about fun, but electric cars lack power!”

If you are a speedster, try out the Kia EV6 GT trim. Once you get behind the wheels of the EV6, you will see just what’s possible. The high-performance EV6 GT hits top speed of 260km/h, and can sprint 0-100km/h in only 3.5 seconds. This extra fun comes from the electric dual motors, which, unlike its traditional counterpart, enable instant torque and produce awesome acceleration from a dead stop – all emission-free, of course.

And while it may not give out the familiar revving sound of an internal combustion engine, it offers 3 types of delicately designed sound experiences via Active Sound Design (ASD) technology which will take your driving pleasure to the fullest.

Q5. “EVs are expensive to maintain.”

Surprisingly, compared to conventional vehicles, electric cars require less maintenance. For one thing, EV doesn’t require traditional automobile parts such as engine oil or transmission oil that once needed frequent replacement. What’s more, the first replacement of coolant for the EV6 is recommended at 200,000 km or 10 years. That is about 5 times longer than generally advised on internal combustion engine vehicles.

So, as you can see, a close look at the Kia EV6 is enough to dispel all these old stereotypes about electric cars, on everything from performance to cost. Not surprisingly, the high-tech features and the best-in-class practicality of the Kia EV6 have already been recognized with several prestigious international awards.

The Kia EV6 was named the ‘2022 Car of the Year’ in European Car of the Year Awards with its combination of long-distance real-world driving range with ultra-fast charging feature. The European Car of the Year is selected by a jury of 61 expert automotive journalists from 23 countries in the European Union. Launched in 1964, the award is regarded as one of the most prestigious honors in the global market.

Its forward-looking design resulted in two victories at 2022 Red Dot Design Awards – ‘Best of the Best’ and ‘Innovative Products’. The traditional Red Dot Award: Product Design, which dates back to 1955, is one of the largest design competitions in the world.

And the list goes on with the ‘Crossover of the Year’ at the 2021 TopGear.com Awards; ‘Premium’ winner in the 2022 German Car of the Year Awards; 2022 What Car? ‘Car of the Year’; and as joint winner of the inaugural ‘Best Cars of the Year’ 2021/2022 Awards. The Kia EV6 is on a serious winning streak.

But for however sensational the Kia EV6 has been, it’s just the beginning of an inspiring journey that has far more to come. Stay tuned as Kia continues to roll out our future EV line up!
