Rafa Nadal goes electric with the Kia EV6
Jan 16, 2022
Rafael (Rafa) Nadal, a 20-time grand slam champion and a perennial top-ranked tennis player, has been Kia’s global ambassador since 2006. As a staunch advocate for Kia’s vision and goals throughout this long-standing collaboration, it’s natural that the tennis superstar has committed to leading a more sustainable lifestyle following Kia’s announcement last year of its vision for sustainable mobility solutions. So, starting with the Kia EV6 as his daily mode of transportation when in Spain, Kia looks forward to partnering with Rafa on our journey to a clean mobility future.
The Kia EV6, an ideal companion for Nadal’s journey towards sustainability
The Kia EV6 is Kia’s first dedicated electric vehicle (EV) and embodies the company’s new brand belief that ‘movement inspires ideas’. Nadal has decided to take his first step towards fully-electric mobility with this new inspiring model.
The specially customized EV6 GT-Line was presented to the tennis star at the Rafa Nadal Academy in his Spanish hometown of Manacor, Mallorca. Nadal will use the customized EV6 extensively when at home in Spain. He also plans to use the Kia EV6 at major tournaments abroad whenever possible, including the 2022 Australian Open, of which Kia is the Major Partner. Additionally, he announced his interest in switching all vehicles used at the Rafa Nadal Academy and the Rafa Nadal Foundation to EVs in 2022 and beyond.
EV6 Court powered by the eco-friendly hero
At the handover ceremony, which was held on a tennis court at the Rafa Nadal Academy. Dubbed ‘EV6 Court’, the lighting was powered by Nadal’s new car through the vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.
The Kia EV6 is equipped with V2L function which enables it to be a convenient and portable electricity supply for daily life or leisure activities. It can serve as an emergency power source and a portable generator. In fact, EV6 supplies up to 3.6kW of electricity, which is enough to light up a tennis court.
Charging – speed and compatibility in one package
More surprisingly, the Kia EV6 can be charged fast and easily, which are often at odds when it comes to many EVs.
The EV6 can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes, as it was engineered for 800V charging infrastructure. That said, most EV charging systems run on 400V. Luckily, a multi-charging system makes EV6 compatible with both 800V high-speed chargers and mainstream 400V chargers, without the need for a special adapter. Speed and compatibility, all in one beautiful package.
Kia is proud to welcome Rafa onboard our movement toward realizing truly sustainable mobility; and we believe that his commitment to play his part with the Kia EV6 will convince any doubters that EVs are the way forward for a better future.
